Carterton Library Exhibition

The Oxford and District Model Railway Club were asked to take the Carterton Layout and Oldstead Gate to Carterton Library in Oxfordshire, to provide a small exhibition for the end of the February half term.

The Carterton layout is owned by Chris Chewter, who is one of our members.

Oldstead Gate was also provided younger kids the chance to drive Thomas, which turned out to be really popular.

It was great to meet up with different people who knew the line. It also gave the chance to share some of the history of the railway in Carterton, as well as sharing the hobby and inviting some people to become members. Flyers for Oxrail 2023 we’re also handed out, and more information about Oxrail can be found at www.oxfordmrc.org.uk/exhibitions

It was a fantastic day in the end. The library were very pleased with their records showing around 300 visitors having come into the library to take a look.

The event was also attended by the Witney Collectors Club, who provided a diorama of the incident when an Avro York crash landed on the Fairford branch near Bampton.

If you didn’t get a chance to see Oldstead Gate and Carterton, both layouts shall be present at our open day. More information can be found at www.OxfordMRC.org.uk/openday
