AbRail 2024

One of our members layouts was selected for the AbRail exhibition 2024. And given that it was the 50th anniversary of our neighbouring club, they requested that the Abingdon layout attended, and we were only to happy to help.

The layout was packed up and transported to the exhibition on Friday, where it was reassembled into the sports hall at the Abingdon and Witney College, and tested. Once satisfied everything worked, fine amendments could be made on the Saturday before the doors opened to the general public.

Doors opened on Saturday where we welcomed young and old to view the model, and to see the various automatic sounds, lights and even smells which had been programmed into the layout.

Sunday came and welcomed a greater number of children over the Saturday crowd. Sunday also welcomed YouTube stars such as David Townend from McKinley Railway, where the layouts technical expert guided him through the complexities of the control panel.

We also welcomed Dawn Quest who was also exhibiting her layout, and again our technical expert explained the automatic scents and smells that are now fitted to the layout.

However all too soon, the exhibition came to a close, and Abingdon was packed away into the van.

The club enjoyed welcoming all who came over to look at the layout, or came over to say hello. More details of the Abingdon layout can be found here.

We are now getting ready for the London Festival of Railway Modelling at Alexandra Palace on the 16th and 17th March 2024 where both the Abingdon and Carterton layouts shall be on display.

With thanks to the Abingdon & District Model Railway Club for welcoming us to the exhibition.
