Tetbury

Built by Chris Chewter and featured during the first series of Hornby: A Model World, Tetbury is one of our members layouts. This 15ft layout aims to take the viewer back in time to the 1950s in OO.

Hewn into the Gloucestershire hillside, the station at Tetbury was a feat of civil engineering. The stream known as “The Splash” was diverted, and a hillside cut in half to create a new plateau for Tetbury to receive its new station in 1889.

Featured in the April 2022 edition of British Railway Modeller, Chris explained that he always wanted to build a model of a real location, and Tetbury fitting into the available space without having to compress the dimensions from a scaled-down Ordnance Survey plan.

The layout took about 6 years to build, and is constructed on an open framed plywood baseboard. The station buildings are kits made by Timbertracks although other buildings are laser cut by the builder. One is even adapted from a Dapol kit to make a close representation of the Dolphins Coal and Coke office.

Track is Peco code 75 with points operated by SEEP point motors.
