Bossington

Early in 2021, the Oxford & District MRC was approached by Leslie Edens family to become custodians of this piece of model railway history. The layout was constructed in 1966 and featured in the 1968 edition of the Railway Modeller.

This 6ft by 1.6ft terminus shows how a compact and elegant GWR branch line terminus layout could be constructed using largely off the shelf components of the day. Trackwork is scale bullhead rail in Killick chairs spiked to Peco sleeper strip and with Peco points. The scenery was constructed with Polyfilla and sand represents earth. Contours are formed with crumpled newspapers covered with Gypsona plaster bandages. Faller and tri-ang grass, Eames lichen, Britains trees, slaters poplars and fencing complete the scenic background.

Structures are largely modified Superquick and Airfix kits. Some are scratchbuilt, with the balsa coal stage based on the one that existed at Marlow.

Rolling stock is a mix of K’s kits and proprietary models from Hornby and Bachmann, Airfix and Ratio.

Oxford and District MRC are privileged to be custodians of this piece of model railway history, and are looking forward to exhibiting the layout in the near future.

The layout was once again featured in the October 2021 edition of Railway Modeller, where more details about the layouts history and construction can be found.
