Cocklers End 1

Cocklers End is the second layout to carry the name of Cocklers End. The first going out on the exhibition circuit in 1981. The layout was built by Ron Alcock.

The layout is set around the Oxon/Bucks border in the summer of 1947 when the builder was at school. The station building is a super detailed Hornby model. Other buildings are made from a mixture of balsa wood, card and plasticard. The goods shed is built up from individual card planks. A small hut was coated with old fashioned computer card punchings to give an embossed brick effect - never again!

Electrically, the layout is very simple. One controller is adequate for, what is basically, one engine in steam on the branch.

The stock that runs on the layout is a mixture of weathered and repainted proprietary models plus a selection of hand built kits. Ron is very privileged to have the use of some rolling stock from the late John Pomroy. Other pieces of stock have been borrowed from various Oxford MRC members.

The industrial complex at the end of the layout took about a month to build and probably gave the most enjoyment of the whole project.
