Brymbo 2

Brymbo is a 7mm/foot combined standard and narrow gauge industrial layout based on the Brymbo Ironstone works at Hook Norton. The works consisted of a network of narrow gauge lines feeding the calcining kilns from the ironstone quarries, and standard gauge lines to take the calcined ore away.

The layout will consist of 5 boards making a total area of 5 feet deep by 12 feet 6 inches wide. At the moment 3 boards exist with 2 more to construct. The greater majority of the trackwork, buildings, locomotives and stock are (or will be) scratch built. The narrow gauge track is made using pcb sleepers and is 14mm gauge (O-14). Photographs show various views of the current state of the layout. A major project has been the scratch building of a large number of identical iron ore trucks (or trams), for which a collection of special jigs and fitments had to be made .

A large collection of industrial buildings will be needed to complete the project, some of which have already been constructed. A small group of modellers are engaged on this layout, and due to the hand built nature of this model, is a fairly long-term project. However, new modellers will always be welcome to join the group.
